This is a wide ranging role, providing both Operational expertise and team leadership. The PDE role will be responsible to monitor and assess competency of Yard Movement Coordinators and Shunter Drivers. You will also manage and lead a team of between five to ten engineering staff covering depot engineering activities; including delivery of units for maintenance, cleaning and passenger service, and auditing of contract cleaning activities.
The Yard PDE is required to cover all operational roles Yard Movement Coordinators and Shunter Driver for annual leave and sickness as well as fulfilling their own role. Key tasks will include the safe and efficient operational running of the depot, yard, leading and motivating a team of staff to ensure that they work together safely and effectively to the required standards and specifications. Co-ordinating the effective deployment of staff to ensure production deadlines and targets are met in a timely manor.
To excel in this role, ideally you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:
- Experience of leading a team.
- IT Skills (essential) Word, Excel and preferred knowledge of bespoke railway systems (P2, SeEng)
- 5 years experience in an Operational / Engineering discipline
- NVQ A1 / City and Guilds level 3 in Competence Assessment (Working towards).
- Core Management and Leadership training.
- Good personal organisational skills.
- Proven ability to communicate and influence.
You will work 10 hours a day in a roster of 4 days on and 4 days off alternating between days and nights. Typical shifts are 8AM – 6 PM or 6:30 PM – 4:30 AM, with paid breaks. You must have your own transport to get to and from your place of work.
